Recently 23andMe launched our Ancestry Service for $99. It’s intended for people who are primarily interested in their ancestry DNA and genealogy. When I was looking for my birth family I tested at 4 companies and put my DNA on another. If you are looking for family it is best to fish in several ponds at once if you can afford it. When I bought my 23andMe DNA test, it was $99. Shortly after that, they added in the health reports they used to have and some new health reports and the price jumped to $199. Many people were only interested in ancestry DNA so the health reports were just paying for something they didn’t need. Also there are several health report sites that you can upload raw DNA to and get similar health reports for much less money.
Customers who buy the 23andMe Ancestry DNA Service will receive personalized and detailed reports on Ancestry Composition, Haplogroups, Neanderthal Ancestry and access to our DNA Relatives tool. In the DNA Relatives tool you can see overlapping chromosome segments between you and your matches and compare them with up to 5 other matches at a time to help you triangulate new relatives for your family tree. The 23andMe DNA database has more than one million genotyped customers worldwide. You will continue to find new relatives as our database grows over time.
Find out where your DNA comes from around the world. Your DNA can tell you where your ancestors lived more than 500 years ago. Explore matches that range from close family to distant relatives and make new connections. Shed new light on your family story by discovering a new relative nearby or somewhere around the world. We provide estimates of your ancestry percentages down to the 0.1%, and we also give you the option to explore results with different confidence levels. Discover the origins of your maternal (your mother’s mother’s mother’s…) and paternal (your father’s father’s father’s…) ancestors and how they moved around the world over thousands of years.
We report on your maternal and paternal lineage by identifying your haplogroups. A haplogroup can trace part of your ancestry back to a specific group of individuals in the distant past.
Your DNA analysis is performed in US laboratories that are certified to meet CLIA standards—the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988.
A CLIA-certified lab must meet certain quality standards, including qualifications for individuals who perform the test and other standards that ensure the accuracy and reliability of results.
If you only have the Ancestry Service, you can easily upgrade to the Health + Ancestry Service for $125 at any time which gives you access to all 65+ reports on ancestry, carrier status,* wellness and traits. To upgrade, log in to your 23andMe account and navigate to the Settings page. You will receive immediate access to your new health reports.
